  12월 21일, 목성과 토성은 단지 0.1도(달 지름의 1/5) 떨어진 거리까지 접근합니다. 2020년 토성과 목성의 대접근은 이 행성들이 1623년의 대접근 이후 가장 가까운 접근입니다. 훨씬 더 가까운 접근은 거의 800년 전인 1226년에 발생했으며, 놀랍게도 단 2분(달의 지름의 1/15)으로 매우 가깝게 접근하였습니다. 2020년 이후에는 2080년 (0.1도, 달 지름의 1/5)에 다시 목성과 토성의 대접근을 볼 수 있습니다.

 

  On Dec. 21st, the Jupiter and Saturn will lie just 0.1 degrees(1/5 the diameter of the Moon) apart. 2020 Great Conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter is the closest these planets will appear in the sky since 1623. A much better close conjunction occurred nearly 800 years ago on 1226 with an astonishingly close separation of only 2 arc-minutes(1/15 the Moon’s diameter). After 2020, the next great conjunction will occur on 2080 (0.1 degrees, 1/5 the diameter of the Moon).
