2021년 5월 26일(수)에 볼 수 있는 보름달은 평소보다 큰 보름달입니다. ‘슈퍼문(Super Moon)’이라고 부릅니다. 또한 개기월식과 겹쳐져서 ‘슈퍼블러드문(Super Blood Moon)’이라고 부릅니다. 슈퍼문은 지구에 가장 근접하는 보름달이며 가장 크게 볼 수 있는 보름달입니다. 달이 지구를 타원 궤도로 돌고 있기때문에 지구와 달 사이의 거리가 달라집니다. 따라서 지구에서 볼 수 있는 달의 크기도 달라지게 됩니다. 지구와 가장 가까울 때와 가장 먼 때의 거리 차이가 약 50,000 km나 됩니다. 일반적으로 슈퍼문은 다른 보름달보다 14% 더 크고, 30% 더 밝습니다. 5월 26일에 뜨는 달이 올해 가장 큰 보름달입니다.  

 

When the Moon is at or near its closest point to Earth at the same time as it is full, it is called a “supermoon.” This month’s full Moon coincides with a total lunar eclipse! During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon is fully obscured by Earth’s shadow, giving the Moon a reddish hue. This phenomenon is where the term “blood moon” comes from. The supermoon is as much as 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full Moons. The full Moon on May 26 is the largest of the year.
