붉은 왜소 행성 명왕성.

We all know Mars as the red planet, and it’s red because there are iron minerals in the rocks. But Pluto is red for a different reason. 

We know that Pluto’s atmosphere and surface contain quantities of methane, nitrogen, and carbon monoxide. When UV light from the Sun reaches pluto and interacts with the methane molecules, it actually breaks them apart and creates a reddish gunk called tholin. 

The image was taken on July 8 when the NASA spacecraft was just under 6 million kms from Pluto.

우리는 화성을 붉은 행성으로 알고 있다. 이 붉은 색은 화성에 있는 암석의 철 성분때문이다. 하지만 명왕성은 다른 이유에서 붉다. 명왕성은 그 대기와 표면에 있는 메탄 분자에 의해 붉은 색을 띠고 있다. 

이 사진은 2015년 7월 8일에 뉴 호라이존스 탐사선이 명왕성으로부터 약 600만 km 떨어진 거리에서 촬영한 사진이다.
