C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) is a comet discovered by the Purple Mountain Observatory on 9 January 2023 and independently found by ATLAS on 22 February 2023. The comet will pass perihelion at a distance of 0.39 AU (58 million km) on 27 September 2024, when it is expected to become visible by naked eye. As of July 2023, the comet is currently 6.0 AU (960 million km) from the Sun. 

 

The Purple Mountain Observatory, also known as Zijinshan Astronomical Observatory is an astronomical observatory located on the Purple Mountain in the east of Nanjing. ATLAS is an asteroid impact early warning system developed by the University of Hawaii and funded by NASA. It consists of four telescopes (Hawaii ×2, Chile, South Africa), which automatically scan the whole sky several times every night looking for moving objects.  

C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) 혜성은 2023년 1월 9일에 쯔진산 천문대(자금산 천문대, 紫金山天文台, Purple Mountain Observatory)에서 발견하였고, 2023년 2월 22일 아틀라스(ATLAS)에서 독립적으로 발견한 혜성입니다. 이 혜성은 2024년 9월 27일에 0.39 AU 거리에서 근일점을 통과할 것이고, 이 때는 육안으로 혜성을 볼 수 있을 것으로 예상합니다. 2023년 7월 기준으로 이 혜성은 태양에서 6.4 AU(9억 6천만 km) 떨어져 있습니다. 

 

쯔진산천문대 (자금산천문대, 紫金山天文台, Purple Mountain Observatory)는 난징(Nanjing, 南京) 동쪽의 자금산(紫金山)에 위치한 천문대입니다. 아틀라스(ATLAS)는 하와이 대학에서 개발하고 나사(NASA)에서 자금을 지원하는 소행성 충돌 조기 경보 시스템입니다. 그것은 4대의 망원경(하와이 2대, 칠레 1대, 남아프리카공화국 1대)으로 구성되어 있으며, 매일 밤 자동으로 전체 하늘을 여러 번 스캔하여 움직이는 물체를 찾습니다.
