When the moon’s terminator – or line between light and dark on the moon – is located in just the right place, you can see a letter X and a letter V on the moon’s surface. Basically, people see Lunar X and Lunar V at each cycle of the moon, but only for a short time. In fact, they’re observable for about four hours around the 1st quarter moon phase.

- Lunar X
The Lunar X, located below the center of this image, is formed by the rims of the craters Blanchinus, La Caille, and Purbach. Each cross piece of the "X" is approximately 65km.

- Lunar V
The Lunar V, located the center of this image, is formed by a set of ridges East of the crater Ukert. Each arm of the "V" is roughly 65km long.
 
달의 경계선(달의 빛과 어둠을 나누는 선)이 정확히 적절한 위치에 있을 때, 달 표면에 문자 X와 문자 V가 표시된다. 기본적으로 사람들은 달의 각 주기마다 루나 X와 루나 V를 보지만, 짧은 시간 동안만 볼 수 있다. 실제로는 초승달의 상현달을 중심으로 약 4시간 동안 관측할 수 있다.

- 루나 X

- 루나 V
이 사진의 중앙에 위치한 루나 V는 우케르트 분화구 동쪽의 여러 능선으로 이루어져 있다. 크기를 비교해 보면, "V"의 각 팔은 약 65km 길이이다.
